Unveiling My Top 3 Picks for an Unforgettable Experience
Lisbon, the stunning capital of Portugal, is a city that has captured the hearts of many and I've been added to that rather lengthy list. As a recent resident of this enchanting city, I spent my first year exploring and discovering its many charms (More on my experience moving abroad in a later post). Having previously lived in bustling cities like New York and San Francisco, I searched for the fanciest atmospheres and most delicious food to bring me comfort in my new city. In this post, I share my top 3 picks for a comforting and unforgettable experience in this beautiful city. These places are not necessarily hidden gems, but they have become my go-to favorites, providing me with a sense of familiarity in my new home and a taste of luxe. Here's a just small sample of the best of what Lisbon has to offer:

1. Via Graca
My first pick and one of my favorites in Lisbon is Via Graca, a contemporary Portuguese restaurant situated atop a hill in the historic Graça neighborhood, offering one of the most breathtaking views of the city. I was taken here on one of my very first dates in Lisbon by a lovely Portuguese gentleman. Knowing I was a culinary enthusiast and still new to Lisbon, he took me here to impress! Here's why: It's an incredible introduction to Portuguese cuisine and a view of Castelo de São Jorge and the winding Tagus River that could move you to tears if you let it! That evening, the hills of Alfama were lit all over with warm lights...truly magical.
The atmosphere is minimal and refined, with modern décor and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer an unobstructed view of the cityscape. The menu features a creative fusion of traditional Portuguese cuisine and international flavors, prepared with fresh ingredients. My favorite dish? The half lobster with rice and shrimp tartare. Drop dead delicious! I'm thinking of my next reservation as I write this!
Whether you're looking for a romantic lunch with your significant other or a special night out with friends, Via Graca is a top choice for an unforgettable Portuguese dining experience!

2. Rocco
Who loves stiff cocktails in a stunning bar as much as I do?! If you responded with a little squeal - "Ooo me!" You're going to loveeee Rocco. This exquisite restaurant and bar boasts an award-winning interior design that is sure to leave you awe-struck. My personal go-to bar for elderflower negronis and pasteis de bacalhau. I must admit that while I tend to only frequent the bar area, the restaurant itself (which serves Italian fare) has been somewhat inconsistent with the quality of their dishes - a cardinal sin in my book. But don't let that dissuade you, dear reader. Rocco's cocktails are nothing short of impeccable, and the atmosphere is positively dreamy. For an extra touch of glamour, I recommend visiting during daylight hours, when the natural light streams in and the decor truly shines. When it comes to maximalist elegance and top-notch libations, Rocco is your spot! Oh - and be sure to check out their bathroom...it's insane.

3. Cura
Looking for a dining experience that combines the best of both worlds - local cuisine and stunning aesthetics? Cura - one of the newest Michelin-starred restaurants in Lisbon is located at the Four Seasons and is truly a culinary marvel. I had the pleasure of experiencing the "Origins" tasting menu, 13 dishes preceded by an amuse bouche of beetroot, pistachio, and orange blossom. This was also where I experienced a sensational chardonnay from my now favorite local winery called Quinta Do Lagar Novo.
Led by Chef Pedro Pena Bastos, a true master of his craft, Cura specializes in creating tasting menus that showcase the very best of Lisbon's seasonal ingredients. Each dish is a work of art, as visually stunning as it is delicious. Whether you're a foodie or simply someone who appreciates artful cuisine, Cura is sure to sweep you off your feet!
